It’s always a good time to head out to Lone Rock, WI and catch up with my friends Lori and Cody during their annual family portraits. I think we’ve been doing this for 9 years and have only had 1 or 2 years of great weather. This year was light rain and overcast but we didn’t let that stop us. We first took pictures around their little slice of heaven on Bear Vale Farm. This year was extra special because they took me to their new hemp field. What a sight to see…and smell! All of Cody’s hard work is really coming together with this year’s harvest. It’s very exciting to see it all come together.
The Blankenhagen family had their family portrait session scheduled in the studio before the tragic explosion that occurred on July 10 in downtown Sun Prairie. My studio is one block away and was in the hot zone for a few days so we weren’t sure when we would be able to get into the studio for their session. Luckily my studio didn’t have any damage so we didn’t have to hold out too long. The session was originally scheduled for just studio, but after everything that took place I insisted on doing some photos in my favorite place in Sun Prairie…the alleyway next to my studio. It’s the perfect place to hop out of the studio and take a few urban photos and also have time to get into the studio for more classic images.
Thank you to Bekka and Dan for going along with my plan to do a little of both so we could get out and have a little fun in downtown Sun Prairie.
It’s been 2 years since I’ve seen 3 year old Audrey. She is now a big sister to 1 year old Ivy. We spent 30 minutes together to get a few updated portraits of the girls together and separate. I think Audrey’s favorite part was showing me how she can twirl in her dress.
It was a breezy evening when I met the Cretney family out for their short family session but considering they were packing up to move in a few days, we didn’t have a lot of options to reschedule so we opted to do the session. The girls had a blast and were so smiley the entire time.
We celebrated milestones for these sisters during a short family studio session. Mizuki turned 3 and Yukina turned 1 year old.
To say I love how Myles newborn baby session turned out would be an understatement. He was the best little client at both of his newborn sessions. Yes…I got to snuggle with him two times, within one week. First visit was to get just photos of Myles. Second session was to include his full family.
His big sisters were amazing with him, even 17 month old Sophia handled him with care and love.
Last time I saw Nick and Jen, they were still a family of three at their maternity session. I was excited to finally meet Bria for her one year pictures in my Sun Prairie studio. Jen told me the first birthday theme was “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and once I saw a picture of her birthday outfit, I knew exactly how I wanted to set up her milestone session. Stars and Balloons!
And of course we couldn’t leave out big sister who’s turning 6 year old!
It’s always fun to meet new people with this job. Melissa met me out in the bitter cold to get a few family pictures during golden hour. At times, the girls were too cold for pictures so we spent a lot of time moving during this session to keep them warm.
I met Lexie for the first time when she arrived at her Senior session. With her busy varsity volleyball schedule, I’m so glad we were able to squeeze in this short high school senior session before school started. It’s hard to believe we were able to get such a variety in such a short amount of time. We were even able to squeeze in a few of her with her younger sisters and my favorites….the one with mom and her three daughters. Now that is a picture every mom needs.

Door County is usually out of my travel area but when roommates from college (and actually I’ve known Julie since I was 6 year old) invite my family up for the weekend I knew I needed to sneak in a quick session with their new family of four. Little Maria is 2 months old and smiling up a storm. It was also fun to watch Ella and my Wyatt play together since they are only two months apart.
Skyler agreed to a mini photo shoot as long as he could have one in front of a hay bale. As you can see, everyone got what they wanted.
