It feels like just yesterday that Amy and Mark brought Ethan into the studio for his newborn session. We just celebrated his first birthday milestone session in the studio with a cake. He was all smiles until we brought out that cake. He was less than impressed with the cake but we still managed to get some super cute pictures of him.
Brynnley’s mom wanted both outdoor fall family pictures and a smash cake session for Brynnley so we ended up meeting up twice within 10 days. Even though they had to drive up to Sun Prairie from Edgerton each time, it was worth it. Both sessions went perfectly and it didn’t push this 1 year old too far for either session. I think if we tried to do both in one day that it would have been too much for her and the smash cake wouldn’t have gone nearly as perfect as it did.
I loved her pearls and polka dots. She matched her cake perfectly and was a pro with it. I always start the smash cake session with parents on the side and tell them that they are on deck for when the baby pushes the cake away but Brynnley did the exact opposite and pulled it towards herself. She was a pro! She loved her cake but loved the “splash” part of the session even more when she got a bubble bath to clean up at the end.
It was fun to celebrate Uthara’s 1st birthday as a milestone session in the studio. At first she wasn’t sure what to think about the studio but she warmed up just enough for me to see her beautiful smile. Her favorite thing to do is have mom or dad bounce her…and snuggle…lots and lots of snuggles. So sweet!
Lots of love going on in this session. I love catching up with friends from college every year when I photograph their family. I love Sarah’s “I’m 3 years old” birthday smile. And I love that my studio is downtown Sun Prairie so we can have a little photoshoot inside with the classic studio look and then hop outside and have some fun, urban photos with the full family in the alleyway.
Aashika came into the studio to celebrate her 1st birthday. She may have been a little shy during the milestone session but she enjoyed her smash cake. I love the pink and gold theme her mom picked.
Last time I saw Nick and Jen, they were still a family of three at their maternity session. I was excited to finally meet Bria for her one year pictures in my Sun Prairie studio. Jen told me the first birthday theme was “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and once I saw a picture of her birthday outfit, I knew exactly how I wanted to set up her milestone session. Stars and Balloons!
And of course we couldn’t leave out big sister who’s turning 6 year old!
At every one year old’s milestone session, I ways say it, but I really mean it…it feels like yesterday that Bronsyn was in my studio for his newborn session. His fire fighter setup was one of my favorites. And now his one year smash and splash session is one of my favorites too. This kid radiates happiness. It’s impossible to not smile when you look at him. He enjoyed every second of his session from the balloons to the cake to the bath. One of my favorites is his dad’s cameo during the smash cake. Of course Bronsyn had to share his cake with his dad.
Last time I saw these two they were sharing Sylvia’s smash cake for her one year old milestone session. She came into the new studio for her two year pictures and wore the cutest pink tutu. The two balloons I had ready for her matched perfectly. Older brother Caleb also joined during the session to get some brother/sister pictures and his own 7 year pictures.
Theodore is turning one and had his milestone session with cake and a bubble bath. I love the way his whipped cream frosting cake made a complete mess. He loved ever part of it. He had a hard time deciding if he wanted to eat cake or play with balloons so at points he was doing both. His quick bath at the end was the perfect way to clean him up and get some super cute pictures at the same time.
Smash cake sessions are always fun and challenging at the same time. Many times the one year old child isn’t fond of the cake but it’s so fun to watch them experience it, many times for the first time in their life. Vivian is turning 1 in a couple weeks and mom brought in a beautiful homemade cake. It had butterflies to match the ones she brought in for the purple background. Everything came together perfectly and turned out super cute.
