Every summer these snowbird grandparents come up to visit their granddaughters for a couple weeks in Sun Prairie. They’ve made it a tradition to get family portraits done while they are here. There’s a special bond between grandparents and grandchildren that I love to capture. These two girls adore their grandparents and loved to laugh with them.
It’s been fun to watch Ethan get bigger. He’s now 8 months old and came into the studio with his mom and dad. The weather this December was so mild that we even went out into the alleyway by the studio for a couple outdoor pictures with the family.
It felt like just yesterday that I met Quintin for his newborn session. Hard to believe he is now one year old. He joined me in the studio (and out on main street) for his milestone session with a smash cake. The smash cake session was “snow” themed!
Every year I donate a session or two to the Royal Oaks Rocket Run which is their annual school fundraiser. When the kids ask for sponsors to support them running laps for 20 minutes. They get a chance to win a prize and I find that offering a family session is the least I can do for the school. It’s fun to get to meet the families that win the prize but this time I already knew Will and his family. It turned out they are my neighbors! It was too much fun to get them in the studio for a family session. We even snuck out in the cold and got a few in the alleyway next to the studio.
Early November is the perfect time to get some pictures inside and some pictures outside. That is exactly what the Giese family opted to do on their chilly November afternoon. I wasn’t sure if they would all fit on the studio couch but they did! It was fun to get the 4 year old twins in the studio. It’s been 2 years since I’ve seen them. Last time I went out to their house in Oregon and they were less than impressed with me at moments 🙂
The Blankenhagen family had their family portrait session scheduled in the studio before the tragic explosion that occurred on July 10 in downtown Sun Prairie. My studio is one block away and was in the hot zone for a few days so we weren’t sure when we would be able to get into the studio for their session. Luckily my studio didn’t have any damage so we didn’t have to hold out too long. The session was originally scheduled for just studio, but after everything that took place I insisted on doing some photos in my favorite place in Sun Prairie…the alleyway next to my studio. It’s the perfect place to hop out of the studio and take a few urban photos and also have time to get into the studio for more classic images.
Thank you to Bekka and Dan for going along with my plan to do a little of both so we could get out and have a little fun in downtown Sun Prairie.
Israel came in for his second birthday and brought his little brother along so we could take 8 month old portraits of Asa too! These two are such serious kids when it comes to taking their pictures but I lucked out and got a few great smiles. And also a few of Israel being the typical two year old and sticking out his tongue at me.
It’s been a year and a half since I’ve photographed Jon & Jenna. Last time we met at Olbrich Gardens in the middle of winter and had a chilly session. This year we went for the exact opposite…summer in downtown Sun Prairie for an urban siblings session. These two have grown up so much!
I was thrilled when Cassie contacted me to set up her family portrait session. Since I no longer go up to the Fox Valley to do sessions, she opted to drive down to me. I’ve been photographing Hunter since he was 5 months old. Now he’s 5 YEARS old and has a “new” baby brother, Lucas. Since it’s still early spring and the trees haven’t blossomed yet, we decided to do half studio and half urban on Main Street in Sun Prairie right outside my studio.
Best. Outtake. EVER.
For some reason Lucas thought this was a good time to try to pull out his brothers front tooth! 🙂
Lots of love going on in this session. I love catching up with friends from college every year when I photograph their family. I love Sarah’s “I’m 3 years old” birthday smile. And I love that my studio is downtown Sun Prairie so we can have a little photoshoot inside with the classic studio look and then hop outside and have some fun, urban photos with the full family in the alleyway.
